Whether you've been using my instruction books and DVDs, or are just searching for a bass guitar teacher, you're ready for some one on one private bass instruction, right? Problem... the commute's a little far. Not anymore! Thanks to the 21st Century whether you're in Los Angeles, New York, London, Buenos Arias, or Timbuktu (you get the idea) we can do lessons! You just need a webcam, computer and high-speed internet.

How Online Lessons Works...

You’ll need a computer with a webcam and high speed internet. (If you’re a wireless user at home you’ll want to connect directly with an Ethernet cable for maximum speed.)

For Mac users we've been using iChat which works great. You just need to send me your user name so I can add you to my buddy list. For PC users we've been using Google video chat with great success. You just need to sign up for a Gmail account (free) and download the Google video chat software (free). Go to mail.google.com/videochat to get the Google video chat software. Then send me your user name / Gmail address and we’ll add each other to our “chat list”. My Gmail address is toddjohnsonmusic@gmail.com. It takes just a couple of minutes and we’re all set.

You’ll also need some kind of a CD player or better yet iTunes for the play-alongs we’ll be working with. iTunes is free! Download it at www.apple.com/itunes/

Position your bass practice amp about 5 to 6 feet from the computer. This keeps us from overdriving the computer mics.You might also want a pair of headphones or powered speakers to monitor the sound. Then we schedule a lesson time etc. and we're good to go.

The video conferencing technology is really wonderful. The only thing we can't do is play together at the same time. There's a latency problem when it comes to playing at the same time. That’s about the only drawback. The way it works is, I have you play...then I listen and watch.....Then I play and YOU listen and watch....it works GREAT!! I have a ton of play along things for us to work with. My methods are organized, concise and efficient. I charge $75 (US) for an hour lesson. Payment is through PayPal.
